ABOUT:

Relocating for a job is never fun unless it's for something or someone you love. Lubie Love is a story of one trucker, one love, one country addicted to oil. It is about leaving behind the daily grind, packing up everything for someone and discovering first hand the grandeur and potential of love in a country, albeit caught between war and an economy in flux. From verifying the news and facts on one of the country's most heated topics - energy - Lubie Love humorously pulls back the sheets on the marketers, manufacturers and consumers that make America a great Capitalist society.

Inspired from a cross country love affair, documentary film maker Mason Hayutin, Hayutin follows Warhol in conjunction with Peck Slip Studios, set's the tone on a much larger phenomenon: the difficult choice to buy green or buy bling. Ethanol, natural gas, bio-diesel, electric and hydrogen are all near or close to production alternatives today - at least that's what the commercials tell you. In just 2 short years (2003 to 2005), the price to drive across the country actually doubled: Hayutin's initial East bound trip went from $500 to keep his unleaded rental truck's tank full to $800 going West! In 2008, we all know gas was out of control.

Throughout, Hayutin asks both from behind the camera and from behind the wheel of his truck, questions of many Americans (yes everyday folks and experts in the field) and comes to a resounding answer on why we are not just in love with our vehicles but how we are actually addicted to the great American love affair of driving at all costs.

Relocation Truck Rentals

A movie that really had it right was "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." Two great comedians (Steve Martin and John Candy) found roles that featured not just the holiday spirit but the perils of our transportation system.

Today's transportation options have swayed back in the car and light truck's favor - albeit briefly. During the filming of "LUBIE LOVE", gas prices in 2005 from New Jersey to Phoenix were on their upward march past $3 and ultimately $4 dollars. Only a year and half earlier the Denver to New Jersey segment cost 50% less to fuel the same class of moving truck. In 2005, a new, Ford truck (a Budget 16 footer) slirped an amazing 13 miles to the gallon. This low mileage was the supposed "exchange" for "power, speed and cab comfort."

Today airlines are sticking it to passengers again, the government already financially supports the civilian rail lines in the North East and an imminent government bailout for F, GM and Cerberus/Chrysler should cover the last days of the "W" administration. Finding humor in our transportation system is all that seems to remain.

How To End Oil Addiction

Evolution is a predominant capitalist way and it should not be void on America's auto industry (including foreign competitors). One in 10 American's are tied to the auto industry. That means our economy without autos sucking oil would shed 10% of our workforce. Yet 9 out of 10 jobs are not related to the industry! Indeed LUBIE LOVE is about this lifestyle - how every facet is touched by a brilliant image of our automotive prowess, pride and patriotism.

Last week's despicable plee by "the Big 3" to save bad management with a "soft, hand out oriented labor force" screams to consumers and companies alike - innovate and prevail to enshrine a patriotic path in America. Certainly we all can use a hand when we're down. How we have forgotten our own way? One clear example is the fact that the Ford Model T achieved nearly 20 miles to the gallon when it outsourced horses and buggies one hundred years ago.

Our political leaders find themselves checking their own priorities as they sit in judgment. Consumer activism and leadership is the fondest means of change. It requires no 4 year election cycle and it entitles each of us to spend wisely daily.

Shouldn't a Ford today be able to easily exceed a standard set in 1908?

Auto and Truck Fuel Economy

CAFE standards, the minimum mileage that an automotive company's fleet of vehicles must meet in order to avoid financial penalty, remains a mild worry at best today. The consumer may want improved mileage but price is once again becoming the ultimate determinant. In a slow period, red tag sales on gas guzzlers (the Escalade comes to mind) seem deeply enticing. The advertised price is only $46,000 and change. If financing were available, this lump of led would find it's way into a soccer mom's garage near you.

As a trucker, status on the highway is important. Technology makes so much possible in our new fleet of vehicles. We have satellite navigation systems, 300 gig hard drives for music, blue tooth hands free entry and of course connectivity to the phone through the onboard stereo. The curious missing component is drastic improvement in fuel efficiency. Cup holders over mileage take precedence with the automakers. It's easy to see why: if you shell out all of the month's savings for luxury, you would be crazy to demand and expect a higher standard on gas consumption when everything else is literally at your finger tips.

The consumer is to blame for the mess in Detroit. Yes, the consumer not Detroit signaled to Detroit by buying/leasing foreign makes that Detroit should focus on foreign markets. Detroit could not beat the foreign competition on the home field because domestic consumers have high standards when spending so much. The price for foreign made products provided better reliability, better fuel efficiency and a better overall consumer experience.
