Bold, refreshing, inspirational. These are the initial responses that the fine art of Renea Menzies invokes with collectors. Menzies is one of a group of fine artists today who found an alternative career in the arts from her youth and family influences. Born in Houston, Texas Renea learned from her family essential sensibilities to style. Due to her success as an international model, Renea ultimately lived in Mexico, Spain, throughout Europe and Asia (Japan specifically). The time abroad additionally influenced her choice in 2000 to leave the runway and explore the arts.
Fortunately the exposure to great Museum's like the Prado or encounters with influential master works by the like of Monet become fundamental to her technique. At the core in her sculpted oils is the time spent as an under study to Dallas, TX based artist JD Miller.
Menzies' use of the pallet knife is much like the brick mason works with mortar as she blends a variety of colors moving the paint around the canvas.
The movement creates a 3-D appearance as the shapes and contours reveal each magnificently sculpted oils - typically flowers. Each painting is completed with a combination of delicate design and a bold finish.
She is methodical in the application of her palette. Bold strokes, thick texture are signature to her style.
